Twitter Tops 200 Million Monthly Active Users

Twitter recently topped 200 million monthly active users, according to a tweet by the company’s @twitter account – and is seeing 400 million tweets per day.

This represents an increase of 42% in active users since last March, when the company announced that it had 140 million active users and 340 million tweets per day.  Comparing this rate of growth with previous announcements, TechCrunch reports that the company is “increasing its active base at a fairly consistent pace.”

In March, Twitter will celebrate its seventh birthday – will the platform be able to sustain this growth rate?

    Incredibly heady numbers Marissa.

    I feel twitter will have no problems growing at a rapid clip as long as new adopters continue to use best practices. Retweet like mad and engage persistently. If you approach the network with a positive frame of mind and giving spirit, you will help uplift the twitter-sphere with each tweet.

    Believe it or not, the quality of the members determines the effectiveness of the network. REALLY! Of course the network needs to be set up effectively but ultimately a site like Facebook or Twitter depends heavily on how its users decide to employ the network.
