TD Bank is going against the grain of social marketing and investing primarily in content on Google+, hoping to gain better search results for customers looking for local banking options. Google+ has now become the second largest global social network, according to GlobalWebIndex. With 343 million active users as of December 2012, it is second only to Facebook in global dominance – though Facebook still has double the number of active users, with nearly 700 million. Read →
“Today Google+ is the fastest-growing network thingy ever” wrote Google Senior Vice President Vic Gundotra in a blog post late last week. Out of the 500 million users that have signed up for Google+, 235 million are “active across Google” (aka +1′ing apps in Google Play, hanging out in Gmail, connecting with friends in Search), and 135 million are active just in the Google+ stream. This week, Google Senior Vice President, Engineering Vic Gundotra announced that 400 million Google users have now upgraded to Google+. Of those, 100 million are “monthly active users” on Google+. In other words, one-fourth of users who make the upgrade become a regular user of the service. Read →
The Digital IQ Index®: Magazines report released in June by think tank L2 is a study that ranks magazine brands in 11 categories according to their “competence” in adapting to “the increasingly digital landscape.” L2 recently posted details that zero in on the largest magazine communities on Google Plus. Even though many of the brands’ Google Plus communities are larger than their Facebook communities, they’re getting less engagement from Google Plus communities. Twitter users are 33X more active than Google+ users, according to a new study by social media research firm Umpf.
