Tonia RiesTonia covers social media statistics and manages the @TWTRBIZ feed.  Tonia is addicted to all things media. She has more than 20 years experience as a sales and marketing executive in the media industry. As founder and CEO of Modern Media, she works with clients such as The Wall Street Journal, TechWeb and 1105 Government Information Group to develop media brand strategies and new revenue streams. She is also the founder and co-host of TWTRCON, a conference focused entirely on the use of Twitter in business. Before launching her own company, Tonia worked as VP Marketing for Ziff Davis Media, overseeing research, marketing and promotional activities for six of the company’s brands. Prior to joining Ziff Davis, she was VP Marketing and Sales at CMP Media, where she developed and led integrated sales and marketing programs for the company’s Business Technology Group. As Associate Publisher, Marketing for InformationWeek from 1994 to 1999, Ries developed marketing strategies that resulted in the brand’s dominant market position, and created multi-million dollar events, online and newsletter brand extensions for InformationWeek. Tonia began her career in ad sales, selling card decks for UNIX Review and classified ads for Embedded Systems Programming magazine. Tonia grew up in Germany and Belgium, and now lives in Montauk, New York. She graduated from Columbia College with a degree in Comparative Literature.

John writes case studies for Social Media at Work, and manages the @TWTRGOV feed. John oversees all editorial research and content development for Modern Media clients, including events programming and digital media content strategies. Prior to joining Modern Media, John was editorial director of events at The Industry Standard and managing editor of research and events at InformationWeek. John has programmed, hosted and moderated events ranging in scale from intimate focus groups to 1600-person executive-level conferences. He has managed B2B and B2C phone, email and Web research and event experience surveys with up to 20,000 respondents per survey. John’s career as a technology and business journalist spans more than 20 years at publications including BusinessWeek, the San Francisco Examiner, the San Francisco Chronicle and HomePC. John is an adjunct professor at the Graduate School of Journalism, University of California at Berkeley and on the Alumni Board of the Journalism School.

Anne will happily take any sponsorship inquiries, and also manages the @TWTRMEDIA feed. She brings more then 18 years of experience as a sales and marketing research executive in the media industry. At Modern Media, she has been responsible for sponsorship sales and partnerships for Ypulse, the leading independent authority in marketing to Gen Y via technology, and now heads up business development for TWTRCON, a Modern Media conference, focused entirely on the use of Twitter for business. As National Director of Research and Marketing for TechWeb, formerly CMP Media, Anne developed and executed an annual study focused on the technology purchase process, including the impact of media on vendor selection. In her role as National Accounts Director she was responsible for creating and selling multi-million dollar custom integrated media programs to the company’s largest advertisers. As Associate Publisher of InformationWeek (1994 to 1998), Anne led a team of sales professionals who were responsible for driving the brand to a leadership position that it still commands today. Anne lives in Sudbury, Massachusetts with her husband, two sons, and various pets. She is a Boston University graduate.

Christopher Carson, Co-founder, Creative & Digital Programs Director

Chris created Feedlytics, and keeps us all plugged in. He drives creative, copy and digital strategies for Modern Media clients, including TechWeb, EETimes Group, Managing Automation and Interop. Chris describes himself as an antisocial hacker, writer and autodidact. He is also an amateur poets, and occasionally blogs at http://chriscarson.posterous.com/. Past gigs include wildland firefighter, circus hand, and stay-at-home dad. Chris grew up in Chevy Chase, Maryland and Westchester, and briefly and ignominiously attended Columbia University, where (thanks be!) he met Tonia.

Carolyn Carson

Carolyn manages the @TWTRNPO and @TWTREDU feeds. She provides marketing, research and project management services for Modern Media clients and projects, including The Wall Street Journal, 1105 Government Information Group and TWTRCON. Previous to joining the Modern Media team, she provided directory production services to clients such as Meetings and Conventions Magazine, Travel Weekly the United States Tour Operator Association, and Paperloop/RISI, managing timelines, production and sales for print and online directories.

Carolyn is a Barnard College graduate and lives in Montauk, NY.
