John Borthwick, CEO of Betaworks and Twitter investor, posted some statistics from his #140conf talk this morning on his Twitter feed. He doesn’t source all of them, but he does label the Bit.ly statistic “Betaworks data” — Betaworks is a Bit.ly investor:
- only 20% of all tweets approach 140 chars (79% have length less than 120)
- Strip off the hashtags and only 13% of all tweets are above 120 characters. 55% are less than 80 characters
- 55% of Twitter users have more than 100 followers, increasing over time
- Betaworks data: There are 453 new bit.ly links created per second … 1,494 links clicked on per second
