A recent survey by artegic looks at the growth of mobile social networking in Germany, where eMarketer estimates there are 25.7 million social network users. Predicting a 13.7% rise to 29.2 million social networkers in Germany by the end of 2012, social networks will soon reach over half of Germany’s internet users (one-third of the total population).
The survey revealed that 77% of internet users in Germany access social media via mobile occasionally – often while they are waiting to do other things (aka in a checkout line.) Regular and heavy usage of social media via mobile is more common among teens and young adults.
According to eMarketer, consumers in Western Europe are more responsive to mobile ads than in the US, and survey results indicate that “products in checkout lanes that are designed for impulse purchase” will be ideal for social mobile marketing efforts — grabbing customer attention in the right place, and at the right time.
