Social networking is experiencing rapid growth in Mexico, and will increase by nearly 18% in 2012, according to an estimate by eMarketer. Facebook, Twitter, and YouTube are seeing the highest levels of social media usage, and the country is the fifth fastest-growing market for social networking worldwide.
Facebook alone will reach 25.6 million users in Mexico by the end of this year.
A study by the Asociación Mexicana de Internet (AMIPCI) in December 2012, as cited by eMarketer, says Mexican social networking users are also highly engaged, with 48% of Facebook users and 34% of YouTube users visiting those websites several times a day.
Video consumption via social media is also high, according to a recent report by Garritz Online Media and comScore, “Online Video Consumption Study, Mexico 2012” (PDF). 86% of online video viewers in Mexico watched video on YouTube and 39% did so on Facebook.
