Out of the top three social networks in the EU5, Twitter and LinkedIn have seen the greatest growth in mobile over the past year, according to new data from comScore. The analysis also shows that growth rates from mobile users accessing social networks far outpaces growth rates of computer users on social networks.
The EU5 (France, Germany, Italy, Spain, UK) had nearly 171 million unique visitors (via computer) to social networks in March 2012, an 8% increase from March 2011. While only 67 million mobile users accessed social networks or blogs – via mobile – in March 2012, that number was the result of an impressive growth rate of 43%, year-over-year.
The graph below illustrates the growth rates for the top 3 social networks in the EU5 (Facebook, LinkedIn and Twitter) via computer and mobile use. While Facebook attracted the largest audience, Twitter saw the largest growth on mobile (101%), followed closely by LinkedIn (96%). Facebook trailed behind with a growth rate of just 51% for mobile.
Also interesting is Twitter’s 66% growth rate among those accessing the platform via computer, fully double LinkedIn’s growth rate of 33% in this category.
