Instagram Tops 100 Millions Users
Instagram now has over 100 million users, according to Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg at the TechCrunch Disrupt conference this past Tuesday. “It just crossed 100 million users,” he said. “They’re killing it.”
This announcement comes after the mobile photo-sharing app officially became part of Facebook last week. Instagram is showing meteoric growth: users numbered at the 80 million mark in July, which means the app is seeing around 10 million downloads per month. ComScore reported last week that Instagram is the 56th most popular site in the US (via VentureBeat).
Facebook plans to let this acquisition basically ‘do its own thing.’ “Our mission with Instagram is we want to help them grow to hundreds of millions of users,” Zuckerberg said at TechCrunch Disrupt. “We have no agenda with making them go onto our infrastructure.” (TechCrunch)
Will Instagram maintain its independence from the social networking giant – and how can long can growth continue at such impressive rates?
