Facebook Reaches One Billion Users, Foursquare Tops 25 Million Users
This week marked big milestones for both Facebook and Foursquare, with user numbers growing to over 1 billion and 25 million, respectively.
Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg noted the milestone with this post:
“This morning, there are more than one billion people using Facebook actively each month.
If you’re reading this: thank you for giving me and my little team the honor of serving you.
Helping a billion people connect is amazing, humbling and by far the thing I am most proud of in my life.
I am committed to working every day to make Facebook better for you, and hopefully together one day we will be able to connect the rest of the world too.”
According to a fact sheet that accompanied the post, the social networking giant reached one billion users on September 14th. The median age of Facebook users is 22, and the network now has 600 million mobile users. The top five countries where people are using Facebook include (in alpha order): Brazil, India, Indonesia, Mexico and the United States.
On Monday, Foursquare co-founder and CEO Dennis Crowley also had big news: the geo-location platform now boasts 25 million users, 5 million check-ins a day and 1 million registered merchants, reported SmartBlog on Social Media. Crowley said that many users are drawn to the service as a way to save money through discounts and coupons. He declared Foursquare “open for business” and ready to work with companies to create partnerships and drive revenue.
