A new study from Facebook and IDC reveals that 70% of respondents use Facebook’s mobile app; an impressive 61% of Facebook mobile users are on the app every day — and often multiple times per day.
Facebook’s mobile app is the third-most popular app on smartphones (for both males and females, including Android and iOS phones): 78% of respondents use email apps, 73% browse the web via mobile, and 70% use Facebook on their mobile phones.
Some of the study highlights (as reported by MediaPost):
- the “overwhelming majority” of users between the ages of 18 and 44 are using Facebook’s mobile app regularly
- 82% of users are reading their news feed in the app
- 49% say they are responding or posting comments on other people’s updates
- 38% say they are posting status updates
- 33% of mobile Facebook users message their friends directly (privately) each day
The study also asked respondents which social media apps they were most likely to use at certain moments during their day: during activities such as shopping errands, preparing dinner and gym time, 46-48% of users surveyed accessed Facebook, vs. only 8-9% using Twitter and 1-2% using LinkedIn.
Over 7,000 people were surveyed; out of those who used Facebook via mobile, nearly all of them “feel almost as connected to family and friends when using this app as they do when using text messaging or simply talking.” Does any other social media app provide that same level of personal connection?
