New research from Burst Media shows that Google+ (not Twitter) is the second most popular social networking site in the US. Google’s late-blooming social network leads Twitter by ten percentage points among both male and female account holders in the US.
The Burst Media study also examined the gender gap on social networks, noting that women continue to lead men on multiple social sites. Women are six percentage points more likely than men to have an account on Facebook; on Pinterest, nearly 22% of women have an account vs. only 5% of men. On Twitter, LinkedIn and Instagram the gap was much smaller, with women only slightly in the lead.
The Burst Media data is from a March 2013 survey of over 2,500 adult US internet users.
