YouTube is making impressive gains on mobile. YouTube’s advertising sales on mobile devices have tripled over the past six months, according to new data from Bloomberg. In other words, mobile ad sales are contributing as much as $350 million to the site’s revenue.
PaidContent labels the rapidly growing ad revenue as the “direct result of YouTube launching its iPhone and iPad apps late last year, as well as rolling out a full-featured mobile web experience across all platforms.” YouTube had previously been unable to monetize views coming from iOS mobile users, who were accessing YouTube through an app built by Apple.
Around one-quarter of YouTube’s 1 billion users worldwide access the platform via mobile device. In the US, 40% of all YouTube video views are from mobile devices.
