Foursquare Tops 40 Million Users
Location-based social network Foursquare topped 40 million users as of last week, a significant jump from the last released number of 35 million users.
The company has also been at work making changes to the platform, including these two main developments:
- a “passive location feature” on the mobile app will automatically detect a user’s location and send relevant info (like menu recomendations) from friends on the platform; this feature is being testing on the Android app by 2,000 users but will be rolled out to all users later this year.
- Foursquare is trying to expand its 40,000-person community of “superusers” (those who use the app daily) by automating the process of becoming a superuser; these users “exert of kind of editorial control” over their favorite venues, helping to keep information current (CNET).
Are you still using Foursquare regularly — and if so, are you a superuser?
