- Facebook brings ad tracking to your phone – Facebook now facilitates ad retargeting based on mobile and mobile app use; companies can also buy ads on Facebook’s mobile app (AllThingsD)
- Facebook boosts targeting options for advertisers – Facebook’s “custom audiences” tool allows companies to gather information from visits to their websites and apps, and use that data for marketing on Facebook via both mobile and desktop (Bloomberg)
- Twitter opens direct messaging to anyone; will this be a new IM platform? – Twitter users can now choose to let anyone direct message them, not just other users they follow; the feature is being rolled out gradually (Search Engine Journal)
- Twitter adds feature for marketers to schedule posts – marketers can now schedule their posts (both regular and promoted tweets) up to one year in advance (Bloomberg)
- Twitter likely to kill its music app – the Twitter #Music app – only 6 months old – is rumored to be near death, after “abysmal” rankings since shortly after its debut (AllThingsD)
- LinkedIn launches a set of mobile recruiting products – last Wednesday LinkedIn released two new mobile recruiting products; ‘LinkedIn Recruiter Mobile’ and ‘Mobile Work With Us’ (AllThingsD)
Foursquare
- With an eye to more revenue, Foursquare opens its ads platform to all small businesses – Foursquare ads are now opening up to businesses of all sizes; 1.5 million small businesses are registered for free on the platform (TechCrunch)
Path
- Social network Path sends 20 percent of its staff walking – Path is cutting around one-fifth of its workforce as it gears up to release Path 4, the next version of the service (AllThingsD)
