- Video ads coming to a Facebook mobile app near you – Facebook announced it will allow advertisers to target mobile consumers with video ads; when consumers go to download a mobile app, a still from the video will be shown – consumers must click to play the video (VentureBeat)
- Facebook starts rolling out Custom Audiences to all advertisers, letting them use contact lists for targeted ads – Facebook’s Custom Audiences feature, launched last fall, will finish rolling out to all advertisers worldwide by the end of November (The Next Web)
- Gory videos OK when posted for users to ‘condemn’: Facebook – Facebook has lifted its ban on content with graphic violence; gory photos and videos are now permitted on the site as long as users “condemn” the acts rather than support them (Reuters)
- Twitter deal will see BBC embed video clips on trending topics — complete with ads – BBC is the latest broadcaster to sign a deal with Twitter; the BBC will embed video clips – with pre-roll ads – in its Twitter stream (GigaOM)
YouTube
- YouTube now lets more creators charge for their videos – as of last Tuesday, free YouTube channels that have more than 10,000 subscribers – and meet other criteria – can now create paid channels and charge monthly fees for them (GigaOM)
- LinkedIn Gets the Message: More Mobile, Please – last week LinkedIn rolled out a revamped iPad app and an e-mail add-on for iPhone users that pulls LinkedIn data about the sender into every e-mail (New York Times)
Foursquare
- Foursquare Adds Analytics Tools For Publishers – Foursquare rolled out new tools for publishers last week; the upgraded Foursquare dashboard allows publishers to see a list of the top places that people who have “Liked” their Foursquare pages have checked into over the last 30 days (MediaPost)
- Instagram to debut ads next week – Instagram users in the U.S. will start seeing photo and video ads as soon as this week; the posts will be labeled as ‘Sponsored’ and the first Instagram advertisers will include Adidas, Ben & Jerry’s, Burberry, General Electric, Levi’s, Lexus, Macy’s, Michael Kors, PayPal, and Starwood (CNET)
