- Facebook amends privacy policy by removing line on minors – Facebook has updated its user privacy policies, including removing language about how teenagers’ content can be used in ads (Bloomberg)
- Twitter’s new app refines DM experience with suggested users, introduces new interface experiments – Twitter’s app update includes the ability to filter search results by media type, to search for local content, asks users where they are when composing a tweet, and adds suggested users to DM; Twitter is also testing some additional features among smaller groups of users (TechCrunch)
- Twitter drops option to receive DMs from any user – last month, Twitter offered an option for users to have anyone direct message them; now this option has been removed and once again only users who follow each other can exchange DMs (PC Mag)
- Twitter tests cleaner web client design with more prominent logo and tweet composer – Twitter is testing a new website design, offering a different visual look with the same basic layout; it includes a more prominent Twitter logo, a new design for the DM icon, and a new compose window (TechCrunch)
- LinkedIn creates product pages in bid for more content-marketing dollars – LinkedIn is testing “showcase pages” for a pilot group of brands, letting them create pages for specific products; marketers can promote the content on those pages as sponsored updates in users’ news feeds (AdAge)
YouTube
- YouTube available on the Xbox One, after all – the new gaming system will have a YouTube app available at launch, using both voice and gesture control (GigaOM)
- Introducing Place Pins, for the explorer in all of us – new Place Pins allow users to pin locations, including address, phone number and directions (Pinterest blog)
- Instagram comes to Windows Phone – last Wednesday Instagram (finally) launched an app for Windows Phone (AllThingsD)
Vine
- Vine goes global with added language support – last week Vine announced support for 19 new languages, focusing on Europe and Asia (AllThingsD)
Livefyre
- Livefyre acquires analytics startup Realtidbits – social commenting platform Livefyre acquired Realtidbits; Realtidbits’ users will be moved over to Livefyre, and Realtidbits analytics software will be offered to Livefyre’s enterprise customers (AllThingsD)
