In 2014, just under half (48%) of Western Europeans will access the internet via mobile phone (at least once per month), according to new research from eMarketer. By 2017 that number will rise to 66%.
Norway is currently well in the lead, with 57% of the population using mobile phones to access the web in 2013. However, eMarketer predicts that by 2017, Denmark will rise to the top of the list with over 83% of the population accessing internet via mobile phone.
France, Germany and Italy continue to lag behind other Western European nations in terms of mobile internet penetration.
Thanks to increased smartphone adoption, the penetration rate of mobile phone internet users among mobile phone users will rise from 49% to 78% between 2013 and 2017.
