Facebook, YouTube, Google+, Twitter and LinkedIn are still the most popular social networks worldwide, but Instagram is growing faster than any other social site, according to new research by GlobalWebIndex. The Facebook-owned image sharing social network increased its active user base by 23% in the last six months.
While Facebook is still the most popular worldwide, the news was not so good for the social networking giant, nor for YouTube, and Odnoklassniki and VK in Russia — these social networks all saw a decrease in active usage (TechCrunch).
Other highlights from the report:
- excluding China, 80% of respondents had registered Facebook accounts, and 50% were active users
- mobile is the most popular way to access social networking sites (66%), vs. PCs and tablets at 64%
- tablets (44%) are the most popular way to access microblogging services (Twitter, messaging apps)
- Sina Weibo is the most popular site in China, with 80% of respondents registered and 58% active users
