On Monday, BuzzFeed’s first presentation at NewFronts had a strong focus on video. The site has produced 1600 videos since September 2012; those videos have earned over 1.1 billion views on YouTube.
BuzzFeed’s founder, Jonah Peretti, told the crowd that “Video is the biggest shift in our business.” (AdAge)
BuzzFeed also showed videos it produced for big brands including G.E., Clean and Clear, and Nestle Purina.
Videos on the site can include anything from “9 Totally Useless But Awesome Hacks You Need To Know” to “This Video of a Hamster Stuffing His Face With Carrots Is Downright Impressive” to “Will You Get Married?”
BuzzFeed markets itself as having “the hottest, most social content on the web” and is known for creating headlines that inspire sharing and often go viral — and it’s not surprising that the same formula has led to success in video.
Will brands be impressed enough to pay attention?
