Beginners Tips for Marketing with Social Media
As of April 2019, there are 3.5 billion people on social media across the globe! Whether you’re trying to reach the masses or just a few blocks, marketing with social media is an absolute must in today’s digital world.
So how do you get started? We’ve compiled four great tips to help you learn the ins-and-outs of social media marketing.
Post with a Goal
Every marketing campaign needs to begin with a clear-cut end goal, whether it’s growing your audience, selling a certain number of products, or just starting a conversation about your brand.
Whatever your goal, define it before you put time and effort into your campaign. If you’re not sure how to go about setting goals, the S.M.A.R.T template is a great place to start.
Keep It Consistent
Your voice on social media needs to reflect the same voice you use in other marketing materials. Yes, social media is often a more relaxed atmosphere, but keep in mind that you’re representing a brand, not yourself.
Whenever you’re not sure a post falls in line with your branding goals, consult your brand bible and ask if the post brings you closer to achieving your goal.
Pick Your Platforms
Social media is a broad category when you think about it. It encompasses everything from Reddit to Twitter to TikTok to Facebook to LinkedIn and everything in between. Are you new to TikTok? It’s not easy getting likes and fans on there, there’s always the possibility of being able to buy TikTok likes.
So where should you focus your energy? That depends on your audience.
A good rule of thumb is to post on the sites where your audience is most active. If you’re a commercial real estate company, most of your real estate lead generation will come from other businesses, so your time is best spent on a site like LinkedIn. If you’re a B2C company, however, you’re far better off using Facebook and Twitter.
With that said, it’s a good idea to register accounts for your brand on as many social platforms as you can, even if you don’t intend on using them. It’s better to have an account and not need it than let your competition register in your name and block off an entire avenue.
Involve Your Audience
Don’t get so caught up in your marketing plans that you forget to involve the people you’re selling to! Social media is about connecting with one another and interacting, after all.
While it’s great to have a wide reach, what you do with that reach is even more important. Involving your audience is a great way to make them feel as though they’re a part of your brand instead of just another consumer.
Post polls, ask questions, and respond to comments as often as possible. The more interaction your campaign has, the better.
