Craig Newmark & the Power of Real-Time Communities

TWTRCON DC’s theme is the “Real-Time Revolution.”  We believe that the real-time web will literally revolutionize the way we work.  Companies need to come to grips with unprecedented levels of transparency and the inversion of the traditional corporate hierarchy. Real-time communities have an amazing ability to self-organize around a specific cause or during times of crisis. Governments will become more open, there will be more opportunities for people to get involved in political campaigns. And the days of the media being in the business of breaking news are over.

We couldn’t think of a better person to set the stage for TWTRCON DC than our morning keynoter, craigslist founder Craig Newmark.

Craig has plenty of experience in creating revolutionary new business models.  And Craig also has a lot to say about the power of all types of communities to change the world.  He is actively involved in many non-profits (including DonorsChoose.org, our official non-profit partner), and he is highly involved in organizations focused on open government (such as the Sunlight Foundation) and on citizen journalism.

Craig will be interviewed on stage by The Wall Street Journal’s Alan Murray, which guarantees that we’ll see a fascinating discussion.  The conversation will touch on issues such as

  • what is a real-time community and why does it matter to your organization or government agency?
  • how do you harness the power of a real-time community?
  • how do you keep the community from taking control?
  • how do you build trust between your organization and the community?
  • how do you manage through the potential for communities to undermine organizational structures or get in the way of your business mission?
  • what does the future of communications and customer engagement look like?

We’ll also leave plenty of time for attendees to ask questions, so start thinking about your questions for Craig now!
