60% of Hotels Have a Social Media Strategy

Hotel internet marketing consultant VIZERGY, in partnership with HSMAI (Hospitality Sales and Marketing Association International), has released a June 2010 white paper based on an online survey designed to how hotel marketing professionals are using the Internet to market their hotels.  The research is based on responses from 381 participants at branded and independent hotels and resorts, property management groups, as well as bed and breakfast accommodations.  Among the findings:

  • 60% of respondents said that they have a social media strategy.
  • 50% have a proactive plan to encourage guests to post online reviews, photos and comments.
  • 70% said that they monitor guest reviews on a weekly basis.
  • 59% cited social media as one of their marketing initiatives.
