Martha Stewart, Founder of Martha Stewart Living Omnimedia, is interviewed by David Pogue, Columnist for The New York Times.
Martha discusses how she got started on Twitter, and how quickly it became successful for her – within 5 months she had 1 million followers, while building that same amount of magazine subscribers took two years. She stresses the importance of being where your customers need/want you to be, and encourages businesses to just TRY social media to see whether they can gain confidence or communication with a new audience.
Martha speaks about when and why she tweets, and admits her concern that social networking may effect the productivity of her staff. Her company uses the internet heavily, with eight active blogs, including ‘The Daily Wag’, a blog ‘by’ Martha’s dogs that has now led to Purina commercials and a new line of products with PetSmart.
