Small and medium sized businesses are rapidly expanding their social media efforts, according to a new report by BIA/Kelsey. Almost half of the respondents surveyed use Facebook to promote their business, and Twitter use among these businesses doubled in the last year.
Survey highlights include:
- 48% of respondents are using Facebook for advertising or promoting their business
- 40% said they have a Facebook page specifically for their business
- 25% use other social networks
- 22% use a blog
- 19% use Twitter to promote their business (up from 9% in 2009)
The survey also compared social media use between older and newer businesses: 32% of small-to-midsize businesses in operation for 0-6 years use Twitter, in comparison to just 7% of those in business for 11+ years, as reported by MarketingProfs.
Survey data was collected from BIA/Kelsey’s Local Commerce Monitor (LCM), an ongoing study of the advertising spending habits of small and medium-sized businesses, conducted with research partner ConStat.
