Social networking is close to saturation in Europe, where nearly 93% of the online population uses social networking sites as of October 2011. The vast majority – 68% – use Facebook for part or all of their social networking, based on new data from comScore. Facebook’s dominance holds strong through the 5 leading European Union markets of France, Germany, Italy, Spain and UK.
Spain showed the highest penetration for social networks with 98%, and Germany the lowest with just under 90%. The UK has the greatest percentage of Facebook users at over 80%, while Germany also has the lowest number in this category, with under 73% of the population using Facebook.
