Mobile shopping app Shopkick, which rewards shoppers for walking into stores and interacting with products, has added CVS/pharmacy as the first pharmacy to join its lineup of retail brands that already includes major names like Macy’s, Target, American Eagle, Mobil, Best Buy and ToysRus. The program kicks off with a special offer of $5 to shoppers who visit participating CVS locations with the Shopkick app.
The partnership launches at 150 stores throughout the San Francisco Bay area, and will include special offers and opportunities to interact with partner brands. According to Drug Store News, CVS customers will also receive additional kicks when they make a purchase with a MasterCard or Visa card through Shopkick’s “Buy & Collect” program, and customers can redeem kicks for CVS gift cards in the Shopkick Rewards Mall. According to Shopkick chief revenue officer Doug Galen, many CVS customers shop several times per week, giving them multiple opportunities to earn rewards.
The Shopkick app works by detecting a signal emitted from a patent-pending device located in each participating store and picked up by a shopper’s smartphone handset. It then delivers “kicks” via the app, which can be collected at participating partner store locations. Kicks can also be redeemed for items such as gift cards, song downloads, Facebook Credits, movie tickets, donations to charities and more. In some stores, Shopkick also offers smaller rewards for interacting with products from brand partners.
Launched in August 2010, Shopkick is now enabled at more than 7,000 partner retail locations across the U.S. More than 3 million people have registered for the service, collectively accumulating 9 million verified walk-ins to partner stores since launching in June 2009. (Mashable)
