American Eagle’s latest campaign for its aerie label is a great example of using mobile to drive traffic to the brand’s social presence. To celebrate reaching 1 million “likes” on Facebook, aerie sent a text message with a free shipping offer to encourage even more customers to become fans of the brand on Facebook.
An SMS message in celebration of the Facebook milestone, reading “Whoa! 1,000,000 likes! a million thanks isn’t enough… be our friend on Facebook.” was sent to opted-in consumers on May 11, along with a weekend-long free shipping offer. Once consumers followed the link and hit “like” on aerie’s Facebook page, they received a promo code for free shipping from May 11-13.
Those who tapped on the SMS link could also see a Facebook post that led to aerie’s mobile site, where users could shop easily from their phone and apply the promo code.
The offer was also available on aerie’s Facebook page.
The goals? To increase social engagement, and encourage shopping on the brand’s mobile site.
